Overview

In this role you will lead UK-wide compliance, governance and assurance activities to ensure legal, regulatory and contractual obligations are met. You will shape and deliver the Business Unit Compliance Strategy, drive independent oversight, and support continual improvement across diverse projects. You will work closely with senior leadership, external regulators and auditors to strengthen governance and performance. This is a pivotal, hybrid role that combines strategic leadership with hands-on assurance across the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the Business Unit Compliance Strategy aligned with governance requirements
  • Lead compliance governance and assurance programmes across the UK
  • Monitor legislative, regulatory and contractual obligations and ensure delivery across operational teams
  • Manage and develop a team of Compliance Advisors
  • Lead audits, inspections, reviews and compliance assurance activities
  • Act as liaison with external auditors, certification bodies, regulators and assurance providers
  • Oversee compliance risks and control measures
  • Lead investigations into significant compliance breaches and governance concerns
  • Provide expert advice and recommendations to senior leadership
  • Develop compliance KPIs, dashboards and performance reporting
  • Analyse trends to improve governance, assurance and business performance
  • Embed lessons learned and drive continual improvement
  • Deliver compliance awareness, training and capability programmes across the business

Key requirements

  • Significant experience in Compliance, Governance, Assurance, Quality Management or Risk Management
  • Experience in large, complex or heavily regulated industries (infrastructure, construction, energy, utilities or engineering)
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance, governance frameworks and assurance processes
  • Proven experience leading audits, reviews and compliance programmes
  • Experience managing and developing teams
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Ability to challenge constructively and provide independent, objective advice
  • Experience working with regulators, certification bodies and external auditors
  • Lead Auditor qualifications or equivalent experience (advantageous)
  • Relevant professional qualifications or memberships in Compliance, Governance, Quality or Risk (desirable)
