Overview

You lead a skilled team on HV/EHV substation projects, ensuring design and construction meet specifications, standards and regulatory demands. The role sits at the interface of project and tender engineering, driving quality, safety and delivery through coordination with internal and external partners. You will shape protection, control and interface engineering while guiding design reviews and as-built documentation. This position offers impact across greenfield and brownfield deployments within a major utility environment, with international travel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all secondary engineering activities from project start to as-built, ensuring QA/QC, HSSE and integrity compliance.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, partners, sub-suppliers and subcontractors to deliver design packages.
  • Review P&C design packages and input into the Design Intent Document (DID).
  • Submit design packages for Design Compliance Audit and manage design changes per the change process.
  • Attend Design Review Meetings and Hazard Review Meetings; lead design certification activities.
  • Lead secondary design tasks including SLDs, protection schemes, interface with existing plant, and cable/system sizing calculations.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and review their deliverables, including remote end requirements.
  • Specialize in substation protection and control system architecture and participate in technical discussions with customers and suppliers.
  • Lead procurement technical responsibilities and develop project-specific technical specifications.
  • Manage budgets, schedules, risk and change for secondary engineering; support site execution and tender development.

Key requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Extensive substation engineering experience in utilities, especially transmission designs
  • Experience with greenfield and brownfield projects
  • Knowledge of SSEN & SPEN requirements and standards
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it
  • Availability to travel up to 25% (domestic/international)
