Overview

In this role you lead a portfolio of capital projects across Bedfordshire Hospitals, from concept to completion. You’ll work within the Redevelopment Team to deliver clinical refurbishments, new facilities, estate modernization, and sustainability initiatives that support safe, high-quality patient care. You’ll coordinate across stakeholders and navigate NHS governance to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery with a focus on practical, value-driven outcomes. This is a hands-on position at scale in a busy NHS environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning, development, procurement, and delivery of multiple capital projects across hospital sites
  • Manage projects through all lifecycle stages from feasibility to close-out
  • Ensure scope, quality, budget, and programme objectives are met
  • Provide specialist project management advice to clinical, operational and corporate stakeholders
  • Supervise junior staff, consultants, and contractors as needed
  • Ensure compliance with HTMs, HBNs, and health and safety regulations
  • Support governance, risk management, and change control processes
  • Work on live operational sites while maintaining patient-focused built environments

Key requirements

  • Significant experience delivering capital, construction, estates, or infrastructure projects from inception to completion
  • Experience managing multiple projects with competing priorities
  • Experience with budgets, financial monitoring, and reporting
  • Experience of managing contractors, consultants and external suppliers
  • Stakeholder engagement across multiple professional groups
  • Knowledge of project management principles and procurement processes
  • Understanding of health and safety legislation in construction projects
  • Experience with NHS governance, capital business cases, and healthcare planning is desirable (HTMs/HBNs)
