Java Backend Developer

Overview

As a Java Backend Developer, you will design, develop, and support scalable enterprise applications using Java and Spring. You’ll collaborate with Business Analysts and stakeholders to translate requirements into robust backend solutions and APIs. You will focus on stability, performance, and observability through the full development lifecycle. This role offers the chance to work in a hybrid London setup and contribute to mission-critical systems in a global technology services company. You will drive improvements and participate in design discussions to shape reliable, scalable software.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and implement new functionality using Java and Spring/Spring Boot
• Develop backend services, APIs, and reusable components
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions
• Design and integrate RESTful APIs with internal and external applications
• Optimize database queries and data-access components
• Investigate production incidents and perform root cause analysis
• Implement permanent fixes for recurring issues and improve stability, performance, and observability
• Participate in solution design, code reviews, and testing
• Develop unit and integration tests and ensure test coverage
• Support releases, deployments, and production readiness
• Collaborate with QA, DevOps, infrastructure, and support teams throughout the lifecycle
• Follow Agile/Scrum and software engineering best practices

Key requirements

• 7+ years of Java application development and enterprise software engineering
• 4+ years of Spring/Spring Boot and backend development
• 3+ years of REST APIs development and relational databases
• 3+ years across the full SDLC including design, development, testing, deployment, and production support
