Operations Data Steward

Overview

In this role you ensure accurate, compliant operational data across UK Personal Investor Operations to support safe client outcomes and informed decision-making. You act as the lead data governance contact within Operations, partnering with Technology, Risk, Compliance, Privacy and the CDAO to implement the European Data Governance Framework. You own data governance throughout the data lifecycle, delivering lineage, quality, retention and remediation with evidence-based controls. This role combines governance execution with hands-on data stewardship to enable resilient, data-driven operations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a complete inventory of operational data assets with ownership, location, classification and lifecycle status
• Document metadata, data definitions, critical data elements, glossaries and ownership in governance repositories (e.g., Collibra)
• Map end-to-end data lineage, processes, source systems and third-party dependencies
• Implement governance policies, standards and controls with evidenced operating effectiveness
• Ensure management information uses authoritative data sources
• Define and monitor data quality rules and remediation actions
• Investigate data issues, perform root-cause analysis and coordinate cross-functional remediation
• Manage data retention, lifecycle, archival and disposition in line with policy
• Provide governance leadership across UKPI Operations and participate in governance forums
• Enable insight by developing reporting and analytics while improving data accessibility and security
• Promote data-management capability through guidance, training and reusable standards

Key requirements

• Demonstrable experience in data stewardship, governance, quality or related field
• Experience maintaining inventories, metadata, data definitions, ownership and lineage
• Experience designing/executing data controls and cross-functional remediation
• Knowledge of data lifecycle, retention, privacy, information security and records management in regulated environments
• Strong analytical ability; advanced Excel; proficiency in BI tools like Power BI
• Ability to translate data issues into business implications for senior stakeholders
