Overview
In this role you will contribute to Arup’s protective design engineering team, applying structural knowledge to resilient, risk-informed solutions. You will work across advisory and engineering tasks, modelling structures under blast and transient loads and developing security strategies for diverse projects. The role involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to deliver protective design from concept through construction, with opportunities to gain global project exposure. You will help shape safer facilities while advancing your career within a leading, values-driven firm.

Responsibilities
- Apply mainstream structural design knowledge and model against transient dynamic loading
- Provide technical input across resilience, security and risk practice for diverse projects
- Support threat and vulnerability risk assessments for malicious threats (terrorism, crime, civil disruption)
- Develop risk-based security strategies and integrate protective design and blast engineering measures from concept to construction
- Carry out blast modelling using CFD and finite element methods
- Design blast-resistant structures across a range of materials
- Design Hostile Vehicle Mitigation measures
- Collaborate with architecture, façade, civil, transport and other disciplines to deliver integrated solutions
Key requirements
- Master in Civil/Structural Engineering
- UK Security Clearance or eligibility to apply for UK Security Clearance
- Experience in design of structures in steel, reinforced concrete, timber and/or masonry per British Standards and Eurocodes
- Experience in the use of structural analysis software
- Coding skills (Python, JavaScript, C#)
- Ability to use Rhino/Grasshopper
- Understanding of construction methodologies and buildability
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice and guidelines
- Right to work in the UK or equivalent immigration status
- Strong communication of complex concepts
