Engineering Manager

Overview

As Engineering Design Manager at Devonport Royal Dockyard, you lead complex engineering design delivery for defence and infrastructure programmes. You act as a technical authority within Facilities Engineering to ensure designs are safe, compliant and fit for purpose across nuclear and non-nuclear environments. You influence major projects from concept through to handover in a highly regulated, safety-critical setting. You collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to drive performance and build capability, contributing to national security and essential public infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical delivery of engineering design projects from concept to handover
• Manage design scope, resources, risks, and delivery to meet quality, time, and budget
• Act as the technical authority and primary point of contact for design-related activities
• Coordinate internal and external stakeholders to deliver complex design solutions
• Ensure designs meet safety, regulatory, and operational requirements throughout the lifecycle

Key requirements

• Strong technical background within engineering, construction, or infrastructure environments
• Proven experience managing the design lifecycle and solving complex engineering challenges
• Understanding of design and safety requirements within regulated or safety-critical industries
• Ability to engage and influence stakeholders across multidisciplinary teams
• Excellent communication and organisational skills with a proactive approach
• Degree in a STEM subject or equivalent experience
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or working towards professional registration
• Membership of a relevant professional engineering institution – Desirable
• Security Clearance (SC) capability prerequisite
