Principal Engineer – Civils and Structures

Overview

As a Principal Civil/Structural Engineer, you will lead delivery across rail projects and multi-disciplinary teams in London and Bristol. You’ll drive quality, risk management and technical direction on complex schemes such as bridges, stations and depots. You work closely with project leadership to ensure successful commercial and technical outcomes, contributing to Arcadis’ mission of sustainable infrastructure. This role offers exposure to flagship schemes and cross-sector collaboration in a supportive, inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of diverse rail projects from bridge replacements to station and depot schemes
• Lead interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables for the engineering discipline
• Perform high-complexity verification checks and QA/analysis of designs
• Coordinate and integrate survey requirements on site
• Develop and manage team performance and subcontractor outcomes
• Support Project Directors in the commercial management of projects to ensure successful results

Key requirements

• Master’s degree in Civil Engineering
• Chartership with ICE or IStructE
• CRE experience is preferable (mentoring available)
• Relevant design experience, preferably in a Rail environment
• Experience delivering design deliverables using analysis/design software and manual methods
• Experience providing technical management and advisory support to project teams
• Sound engineering judgement in project development
• Knowledge and experience in design risk management
