In this role you will lead mechanical design efforts within a Birmingham-based consultancy focused on energy-efficient, sustainable building services. You’ll shape ambitious projects by guiding design through concept to completion and mentoring engineers, while collaborating across disciplines. Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design process for large-scale, complex building services projects
- Oversee and review IES modelling outputs to ensure quality (hands-on modelling not required)
- Provide technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle from concept to completion
- Mentor and develop junior engineers and support a small team
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (electrical and environmental) to deliver integrated solutions
- Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and contractors to capture requirements and manage expectations
- Manage project timelines and deliverables to ensure timely, high-standard outcomes
- Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices to maintain compliant designs
- Attend client and project meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and solutions
Key requirements
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in building services mechanical design
- Proven track record on large-scale, complex projects
- Strong leadership and mentoring abilities
- Proficiency in overseeing IES modelling outputs and building performance analysis
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Chartered Engineer status (desirable)
