Overview

As Quality Engineering Lead, you steer quality strategy across Platform engineering to enable reliable, fast delivery in a modern software environment including AI-assisted development. You champion a shift-left, risk-based quality culture, embed testing into delivery, and define scalable verification approaches. You’ll balance speed, risk, and customer outcomes, while maturing QA practices, talent, and standards across the team. This role combines leadership with hands-on direction to elevate quality across the software lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Define and lead quality engineering strategy across Platform to integrate testing into delivery
  • Develop scalable verification approaches for AI-assisted code and mixed portfolios
  • Own test strategy for new and legacy work with appropriate approaches
  • Extend testing to performance, accessibility, and resilience beyond functional coverage
  • Collaborate with product, business, and engineering to define quality standards per initiative
  • Represent Platform in QA Guild, cascading standards and decisions
  • Ensure security and quality scanning across the pipeline
  • Evaluate, select and evolve testing tools and frameworks
  • Incorporate production defect learnings into test strategy
  • Recruit, coach, and mentor QA engineers (embedded and partner roles)
  • Drive a culture of quality across Platform

Key requirements

  • Strong passion for delivering high-quality software
  • Experience defining QA strategy from scratch and improving existing practices
  • Experience leading and growing a QA function, including hands-on recruitment
  • Experience managing direct and dotted-line reporting
  • Experience addressing verification challenges in AI-assisted development
  • Hands-on with modern CI/CD, source control, and engineering metrics tooling
  • Familiarity with DORA quality metrics and Team Topologies (advantageous)
  • Recognised testing certification (e.g., ISTQB) or equivalent practical experience (advantageous)
