Overview

In this role you will deliver expert 3rd line support for Virgin Media O₂’s core network platforms, owning Fixed Access and Wholesale Access technologies. You will work hands-on with leading platforms such as XGS-PON, DOCSIS, EVPN, and NNIs, solving complex challenges at the heart of the network. You’ll be part of a fast-moving, collaborative team that shapes new platforms and upgrades while providing guidance to junior engineers. Responsibilities

  • Provide expert 3rd line support for core network platforms and services
  • Own and evolve Fixed Access and Wholesale Access technologies
  • Collaborate with Data Centre, Core, Corporate and ISP Systems Support teams to deliver end-to-end support
  • Shape and upgrade platforms and services to move the network forward
  • Lead and mentor junior team members to grow talent within the Data Support function
  • Resolve complex incidents and contribute to root-cause analysis and improvement actions
  • Ensure monitoring and real-time telemetry are leveraged to identify patterns and optimise performance

Key requirements

  • Extensive experience in carrier/enterprise grade network infrastructure (Juniper, Nokia, Cisco, Commscope)
  • Understanding of XGS-PON technologies
  • Fundamental understanding of ISIS, MPLS, SR MPLS, EVPN, IPv6
  • In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, Routing, Switching and the OSI model
  • Process-oriented troubleshooting and problem resolution skills
  • Ability to lead and communicate during major incidents
  • Familiarity with monitoring and OSS tools and interpreting telemetry, alarms, and trends
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to adapt to technical and non-technical audiences (up to HoD/Director level)
