In this role you lead the M&S Platform team to empower 200+ engineers across 30+ apps, building reusable pipelines and tooling to improve developer experience. You align engineering delivery with the company’s product-led strategy and own the technical vision for scalable web platforms. You will both guide strategy and contribute code, shaping platforms that enable fast, reliable digital experiences for customers and colleagues. Responsibilities

  • Drive engineering excellence across teams, from culture to production operations and solution design
  • Foster self-management, accountability, and clear purpose through leadership and talent management
  • Align with the overall technical strategy and collaborate with the Technology organisation to refine it
  • Act as platform owner, applying product thinking to enable digital products via data and customer-centricity
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership to maintain strategic alignment and scale thinking
  • Line manage and recruit senior engineers and support retention
  • Own OKRs within the hub and drive community initiatives for bar-raising alignment
  • Interface with vendors as the key technical partner and ensure platform reliability

Key requirements

  • Polyglot hands-on senior software engineer
  • Strong knowledge of modern web technologies
  • Extensive software engineering background across various systems and technologies
  • Experience leading teams of senior engineers delivering high-quality software
  • Deep understanding of system design, software architecture, cloud, and standard methodologies

  • Strong testing strategies and reliability engineering
  • Excellent people management, analytical, and problem-solving skills
