Financial Controller

Overview

In this hands-on Financial Controller role, you will oversee financial control, planning, and reporting to support strategic decisions. You’ll lead a small finance team and partner with senior management to provide accurate insights and drive financial discipline. The role covers monthly accounts, budgeting, forecasting, regulatory submissions, and process improvements to enable business growth. It’s a senior, impact-focused position in a stable Northamptonshire organisation with varied, commercially oriented challenges.

Responsibilities

• Produce monthly management accounts and KPIs
• Prepare consolidated financial information
• Manage balance sheet controls and reconciliations
• Oversee cash flow, forecasting and budgets
• Coordinate VAT, PAYE, Corporation Tax and regulatory submissions
• Oversee banking, treasury, payables, receivables, payroll and intercompany transactions
• Lead annual audit process
• Provide management with financial analysis for decision-making
• Develop and mentor a small finance team
• Review and improve financial processes and controls
• Support ad-hoc financial analysis and projects
• Ensure regulatory compliance and timely reporting

Key requirements

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
• Financial Controller experience
• Experience across multiple entities or business areas
• Experience in construction, contracting or project-led environments
• Strong management accounting, budgeting and forecasting
• VAT, PAYE, Corporation Tax and audit experience
• Experience managing and developing a finance team
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent commercial awareness and communication skills
• Advanced Excel skills
• Experience using Sage 200
