JOB SUMMARY
Pure N Sure Limited, trading as Desi S-Mart Supermarket, is seeking an organised and customer-focused Shop Supervisor to oversee daily shift activities at its retail stores in Birmingham and Manchester.
The successful candidate will supervise employees, maintain customer-service standards, monitor stock availability and ensure that tills, displays and shop-floor activities are managed efficiently.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise shop-floor employees and coordinate daily shift activities.
- Allocate tasks and ensure employees understand their responsibilities.
- Provide guidance and support to employees throughout their shifts.
- Monitor punctuality, attendance, conduct and adherence to store procedures.
- Assist with employee induction and on-the-job training.
- Ensure customers receive prompt, professional and courteous service.
- Respond to customer enquiries and resolve complaints, refunds and exchanges appropriately.
- Supervise till operations, cash handling and shift reconciliation.
- Investigate and report cash discrepancies to management.
- Monitor stock levels and report products requiring replenishment.
- Receive deliveries and check goods against delivery documentation.
- Ensure products are correctly priced, labelled, rotated and displayed.
- Monitor expiry dates and take appropriate action to reduce waste.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation and organisation.
- Support promotional displays and seasonal merchandising activities.
- Ensure compliance with food hygiene, health and safety and age-restricted-sales procedures.
- Monitor the shop floor for theft, fraud, safety risks and suspicious activity.
- Maintain accurate shift, incident, cash and stock records.
- Provide shift-performance updates to the Retail Manager or Assistant Retail Manager.
SKILLS REQUIRED
- Strong employee-supervision and team-coordination skills.
- Excellent customer-service and interpersonal abilities.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Good organisational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to delegate tasks and monitor their completion.
- Competence in operating tills and electronic point-of-sale systems.
- Good knowledge of cash handling, stock replenishment and merchandising.
- Ability to remain calm and make appropriate decisions during busy periods.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to resolve customer concerns professionally.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
- Knowledge of South Asian grocery products and customer preferences would be advantageous.
- Ability to speak a South Asian regional language, such as Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, Punjabi or Urdu, would be beneficial but is not essential.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and public holidays according to the rota.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A relevant qualification in retail, customer service, business or a related subject is desirable.
- Relevant vocational or professional retail qualifications will be considered.
- Candidates with substantial directly relevant retail-supervision experience may also be considered.
EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of one year’s relevant experience in retail, including supervisory or team-leading responsibilities, is required.
- Previous experience in a supermarket, convenience store, grocery store or food-retail environment is preferred.
- Experience operating tills, handling cash, replenishing stock and assisting customers is essential.
- Experience supervising shifts, allocating work and training employees is desirable.
