Mathematics Teacher – Fixed Term Contract – Ditcham Park School

Mathematics Teacher – Fixed Term Contract

The Mathematics Department

The Mathematics Department is seeking an ambitious and inspirational teacher to join its highly successful team on a fixed-term contract of 5 months. This is a full-time post, and applications are warmly welcomed from ECTs. Ideally, the successful candidate would be available for an immediate start.

Aligned with the School’s aims to ‘Prepare Pupils for the Future’ and ‘Promote Academic Excellence’, the department is committed to developing confident, resilient mathematicians with strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Teaching is carefully sequenced, purposeful, and designed to ensure all learners make strong progress.

Mathematics is taught across the senior school (Year 7 to Year 11), following the IGCSE curriculum. Structured opportunities for challenge, fluency, and deep thinking are embedded throughout.

The department operates in a highly collaborative culture, with staff regularly sharing resources, strategies, and ideas to continually refine and improve teaching and learning.

Teaching, Learning & Curriculum Approach

Mathematics teaching at Ditcham Park School is underpinned by high expectations, clear modelling, and a strong emphasis on retrieval practice and long-term retention.

Pupils are taught in sets from January of Year 7 to ensure learning is well-matched to need, while also taking part in whole-year group mathematical activities that promote collaboration, confidence, and aspiration across all ability ranges.

Job Description: Mathematics Teacher FTC September 2026

Pupils enjoy their Mathematics lessons and do not shy away from challenge. Students engage

positively with lessons and are willing to persevere when work becomes demanding.

The department places a strong emphasis on developing independent learners. Pupils are regularly

guided to reflect on their understanding using structured red/amber/green topic tracking, alongside

carefully designed revision materials and retrieval based learning routines.

Each year, around half of the senior school participates in the UKMT Maths Challenge, with pupils

regularly progressing to follow-on rounds. This reflects the strong culture of problem-solving and

mathematical curiosity within the department.

In Year 11, structured revision programmes support pupils in building disciplined, independent study

habits, including daily practice routines designed to identify and close gaps in understanding.

Use of Technology

The department makes highly effective use of digital learning tools. Chromebooks are embedded

into lessons to support modelling, exploration, and independent practice.

Platforms including Desmos, MathsWatch and MyMaths, are used alongside calculators to enhance

understanding, support revision, and provide immediate feedback to pupils.
