Head Dental Nurse – Northwood

Due to continued business growth, The Dental Design Studio is looking for an experienced and motivated Head Dental Nurse to join our friendly and committed team at our Northwood practice.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be fully qualified and GDC registered, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience working as a Qualifed Dental Nurse.

Due to the busy nature of the practice, applicants must have at least 1 year of experience working in a dental nursing leadership role, be confident working independently and have experience assisting with surgical procedures.

As Head Dental Nurse, you will be responsible for supporting and leading the dental nursing team, helping to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the practice and maintaining high standards of clinical care, infection control and compliance.

Knowledge of the SFD dental computer system would be an advantage but is not essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality dental nursing support and assist dentists with all procedures safely and effectively.
  • Work confidently and independently within the surgery.
  • Lead, support and supervise the dental nursing team on a day-to-day basis.
  • Help organise the nursing team, including rotas, surgery cover and allocation of duties.
  • Ensure the nursing team works efficiently and maintains consistently high clinical and professional standards.
  • Support the induction, training and development of new and existing dental nurses.
  • Provide guidance, support and constructive feedback to members of the nursing team.
  • Act as a positive role model and lead by example.
  • Monitor standards of nursing, surgery preparation, stock control and general clinical organisation.
  • Work closely with dentists and practice management to ensure the smooth running of the practice.
  • Assist with addressing day-to-day nursing team issues and elevate concerns to practice management where appropriate.
  • Follow all practice policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Maintain GDC registration and undertake CPD in line with GDC requirements.
  • Maintain positive and professional working relationships with the dental team.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, PPE, COSHH, waste disposal and Health & Safety requirements.
  • Take a lead role in ensuring the dental nursing team follows infection control, decontamination and clinical governance procedures.
  • Assist with audits, inspections and maintaining records required for CQC compliance.
  • Support the practice in meeting CQC requirements and maintaining high professional standards.
  • Help identify areas for improvement within the nursing team and support the implementation of appropriate changes.
  • Provide excellent patient care and contribute to the smooth running of the practice.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has at least 2 years’ dental nursing experience.
  • Is fully qualified and GDC registered.
  • Has at least 1 year of experience working as a Head Dental Nurse or in a dental nursing leadership role.
  • Has previous experience supporting, supervising and leading other dental nurses.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Is confident working independently and able to use their own initiative.
  • Is confident providing direction, support and constructive feedback to colleagues.
  • Is organised and able to manage and prioritise the needs of the nursing team.
  • Is reliable, professional and well organised.
  • Works well as part of a team.
  • Has a positive leadership style and is approachable and supportive.
  • Has a positive attitude and a good sense of humour.
  • Is committed to providing excellent patient care.
  • Maintains high standards of professionalism and infection control.
  • Is committed to supporting the development and performance of the dental nursing team.
