We’re looking for a full-time Maintenance Technician to join our small maintenance team and support the safe and reliable operation of our stonemasonry site, machinery, equipment and vehicles. This is a practical, hands-on role suited to someone with a broad range of maintenance skills. Working alongside a small maintenance team and reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you’ll carry out planned and reactive maintenance, respond to faults and breakdowns, and help keep machinery, vehicles, equipment and facilities in good working order.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out routine, preventative and reactive maintenance across machinery, equipment, vehicles, buildings and the wider site.
- Assist with diagnosing faults and completing basic mechanical and electrical repairs.
- Carry out basic welding and fabrication work where required.
- Support the maintenance and repair of site vehicles, plant and mobile equipment.
- Respond to reported defects and breakdowns, completing repairs where appropriate or escalating more complex issues.
- Carry out routine inspections and checks to help identify maintenance requirements before faults develop, and maintain a scheduled maintenance programme.
- Replace worn or damaged components and assist with fitting new parts and equipment.
- Use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment and workshop machinery safely and appropriately.
- Assist with general site maintenance, including repairs to yard areas, buildings, fixtures and infrastructure, and machine/equipment installations.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance work completed, outstanding faults and parts required.
- Help maintain an organised stock of maintenance tools, parts and consumables.
- Work closely with colleagues across the site to minimise downtime and ensure maintenance work is completed safely and efficiently.
- Follow all health and safety procedures, including isolating equipment and ensuring machinery is safe before returning it to service.
What we’re looking for
- Practical experience in a maintenance, mechanical, engineering, plant, vehicle or similar hands-on environment.
- A basic working understanding of mechanical systems and machinery.
- Basic electrical knowledge and the ability to carry out appropriate first-line electrical fault finding and maintenance within your level of competence.
- Basic welding and fabrication skills (although training may be given).
- A practical understanding of vehicle, plant or mobile equipment maintenance.
- Confidence using hand tools, power tools and workshop equipment.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a small maintenance team.
- Ability to work independently on allocated tasks and use good judgement when a problem needs to be escalated.
- Good attention to detail and a commitment to completing work safely and properly.
- Good awareness of workplace health and safety and safe systems of work.
- Previous experience working in a manufacturing, quarrying, construction, engineering or heavy industrial environment.
- Experience maintaining production machinery, plant or commercial vehicles.
- Formal mechanical, electrical, welding or maintenance-related qualifications.
- Experience with preventative maintenance schedules or digital maintenance systems.
- Forklift or other relevant plant qualifications.
