Basic Hourly rate – £12.85

Shift Allowance: Available on top of the basic rate

Quest Employment are currently recruiting for an experienced Machine Operative to join a busy production and packing operation based in Peterborough.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous experience operating machinery within a food production, manufacturing or packing environment, who is looking for an ongoing role with a reputable employer.

The Role

As a Machine Operative, you will be responsible for operating and monitoring packing machinery, ensuring products are packed safely, efficiently and to the required customer standards.

You will also be responsible for supporting the wider packing operation and ensuring all production and traceability requirements are followed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate packing machinery safely and efficiently.

  • Oversee and support the activities of Packing Operatives working alongside you.

  • Ensure all packing activities meet Food Safety and Health & Safety requirements.

  • Complete all required production and packing paperwork accurately.

  • Ensure products and raw materials are correctly labelled and recorded for full traceability.

  • Follow customer specifications and packing sheets accurately.

  • Work in accordance with relevant quality and accreditation requirements.

  • Report any issues or deviations from specifications to the Production Supervisor, Production Manager or Quality Assurance team.

  • Operate machinery to achieve maximum output while minimising waste, labour and material usage.

  • Ensure finished products and packaging meet customer requirements.

  • Report any mechanical issues to the relevant Supervisor or Engineer and complete job sheets where required.

  • Maintain a clean-as-you-go approach throughout your shift.

  • Work as part of a team to maintain high standards of quality, productivity and customer service.

  • Contribute towards continuous improvement and reducing customer complaints.

About You

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Experience within a food production, manufacturing or similar environment would be advantageous, but not essential.

  • A good understanding of Health & Safety and Food Safety requirements.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • The ability to complete paperwork accurately.

  • Good organisational skills and an understanding of product traceability.

  • The ability to identify and report faults or issues promptly.

  • A strong work ethic and reliable approach to attendance.

  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • The flexibility to work rotating shifts and additional hours when required.

Working Hours

The standard shift pattern is:

Week 1: 6:00am – 2:00pmWeek 2: 2:00pm – 10:00pm

Monday – Friday

A shift allowance is available on top of the basic rate.

Flexibility may occasionally be required depending on production requirements.
