Overview
As a Design Engineer III, you drive the mechanical design of complex systems across projects, delivering reliable, manufacturable products within cost and regulatory constraints. You will lead technical direction, mentor engineers, and contribute to continuous capability improvement. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet performance and quality goals while aligning with production architectures. This role offers the opportunity to influence product performance and drive innovation in a manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead design and development of complex mechanical systems to meet performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost targets
- Own significant engineering projects and ensure timely, quality-delivered design activities
- Create and maintain engineering documentation (drawings, BOMs, assembly instructions, publications) compliant with change processes
- Promote best-practice methods and standards across the Engineering team
- Integrate designs within wider production architectures, considering serviceability, manufacturing needs and customer requirements
- Lead CAE/FEA analyses and engineering calculations to validate concepts and optimize performance
- Drive DFM, DFA, DFR and cost-reduction initiatives with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Production
- Identify risks, perform root-cause investigations, and implement effective solutions
- Lead design reviews and guide other engineers through technical challenges
- Interpret and apply legislation, standards, and regulatory requirements for cross-market compliance
- Plan and lead validation and verification activities, including test strategy and sign-off
- Mentor junior engineers, fostering knowledge sharing and capability growth
- Collaborate with cross-functional and international teams to develop new technologies and products
- Support product roadmap and technology planning to identify opportunities for innovation and competitive advantage
Key requirements
- Five+ years in mechanical design and product development in a manufacturing environment, with project leadership from concept to production
- Experience designing with steels, plastics, alloys, and fabricated assemblies
- Strong understanding of prototyping, DFM, DFA, and product validation processes
- Advanced knowledge of DFMEA and PFMEA
- Experience leading design reviews and cross-functional collaboration to resolve issues
- Advanced proficiency in CAD (NX preferred) for complex assemblies and documentation
- Proficiency in FEA tools (ideally ANSYS) for analysis and decision-making
- Experience with PLM and ERP systems to manage data and changes (desirable)
- Hands-on, multidisciplinary leadership with minimal supervision
- Strong technical leadership, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills
- Attention to detail and commitment to robust, manufacturable solutions
