Overview

In this Category Manager role, you steer strategic procurement within construction, asset management, and property services for a large public-sector client. You will lead end-to-end sourcing, shape category strategies, and manage supplier performance to deliver value for money. You’ll collaborate with stakeholders to align procurement with wider business aims and maintain governance in a regulated environment. Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end procurement and sourcing projects within designated category areas
  • Develop and implement category strategies aligned with organisational priorities
  • Manage supplier engagement, tendering, negotiations, contract awards and performance
  • Ensure compliance with public sector procurement regulations and governance
  • Build strong internal stakeholder relationships to understand requirements and opportunities
  • Conduct market analysis and supplier research to inform decisions
  • Identify opportunities for efficiencies, cost savings, and value creation
  • Support supplier relationship management and life-cycle contract management
  • Monitor expenditure and ensure appropriate routes to market
  • Promote procurement best practice, compliance, and continuous improvement

Key requirements

  • Experience as Category Manager, Procurement Manager or Strategic Sourcing
  • Strong procurement expertise in construction, development, property services, asset management, repairs and maintenance, hard FM or related areas
  • Proven experience leading complex sourcing and delivering commercial outcomes
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills
  • Strong supplier relationship and contract management experience
  • Experience managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Strong analytical and commercial decision-making abilities
  • Knowledge of public sector procurement regulations including Procurement Act 2023 and PCR 2015
  • Experience in housing, local government, public sector or facilities management environments would be advantageous
