Overview

In this Design Engineer role, you will design and validate drivetrain components and transmission systems for Caterpillar’s wheel loaders, tele handlers, and backhoe loaders. You will work across new product introduction and current programs to deliver reliable, high-performance solutions that meet customer needs. You’ll collaborate with manufacturing, suppliers, and global teams to drive production release and continuous product improvements. This position offers the chance to shape critical driveline technology within a global leader in heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Define requirements and propose technical solutions aligned with customer and business needs
  • Lead and support design and development of drivetrain components from concept to production release
  • Create detailed designs and support prototype, verification, testing, and validation
  • Assess risks, compare solutions, and balance performance, quality, durability, and cost
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, suppliers, purchasers, customers, and global teams to ensure successful outcomes
  • Communicate technical updates and recommendations to stakeholders and support product improvements and NPI activities

Key requirements

  • Translation of customer/product requirements into robust engineering solutions
  • Experience in CAD-enabled design of drivetrain components and assemblies
  • Analytical thinking to identify root causes and balance performance, quality, durability, cost
  • Ability to plan and coordinate multiple engineering activities with minimal supervision
  • Mechanical engineering fundamentals and drivetrain knowledge (transmissions, gears, shafts, bearings, housings, wet clutches, hydraulics)
  • Experience with validation, prototype development, testing, and production launch
