Overview

In this role you drive the technical direction of embedded software and firmware, leading development across microcontrollers, SoCs and FPGA-based systems. You will shape engineering processes, governance and best practices while delivering complex embedded solutions in collaboration with software, firmware, hardware and systems teams. You’ll translate requirements into robust specifications, oversee design and verification, and mentor engineers to raise capability across the team. This position offers impact across projects, bids and safety-critical standards, within a cross-disciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop embedded engineering capability across microcontrollers, SoCs and FPGAs
  • Provide technical authority, governance and oversight for embedded development
  • Define engineering processes, workflows and best-practice standards
  • Plan and deliver embedded software/firmware work packages
  • Translate requirements into firmware/software specifications
  • Develop architecture concepts and supervise detailed designs
  • Define verification strategies, validation plans and test cases
  • Build reusable modules and libraries to improve delivery
  • Support bids, proposals and engineering estimates
  • Ensure solutions meet quality, compliance and safety standards (SIL/ASIL)
  • Mentor engineers and support recruitment/onboarding
  • Foster collaboration across software, firmware and hardware teams

Key requirements

  • HNC/HND or degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Strong background in embedded systems engineering
  • Embedded C/C++ experience
  • Microcontrollers and SoCs experience
  • FPGA-based systems experience
  • Firmware/software architecture and specification
  • Engineering verification, validation and testing
  • Defining and implementing engineering processes
  • Hardware Description Languages – VHDL
  • FPGA simulation and verification tools
  • Safety-related development standards such as SIL/ASIL
  • Pragmatic engineering decisions
