Overview

In this role you lead mechanical design for building services across a diverse project portfolio, from concept through to completion, within a collaborative multidisciplinary team. You’ll develop sustainable HVAC and related systems, manage client relationships, and mentor junior engineers. The position emphasizes ownership, technical excellence, and delivering compliant, innovative solutions that support the company’s growth across commercial, residential, and education sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design across all RIBA stages for building services projects
  • Design and specify HVAC, public health, heating, cooling, and ventilation systems
  • Produce design calculations, specifications, reports, and feasibility studies
  • Coordinate with electrical engineers, architects, contractors, and other consultants
  • Attend client, design team, and site meetings as the lead mechanical representative
  • Manage project programmes, budgets, and resource allocation
  • Mentor and support junior/intermediate engineers
  • Ensure designs comply with current legislation, regulations, and industry standards

Key requirements

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Proven experience within a Building Services Consultancy
  • Strong project experience in commercial, residential, and education developments
  • Excellent technical knowledge of heating and cooling, ventilation, and public health design; heat pump technologies; energy-efficient and low-carbon solutions
  • Proficient with Hevacomp, IES, AutoCAD, and Revit
  • Strong client-facing and communication skills
  • Experience leading projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams
  • Chartered status or working towards Chartership is desirable
