Liability Underwriter – North America

Overview

In this role you will underwrite high-excess US industrial liability programs for large multinational clients, focusing on heavy industry, energy, and construction. You will work closely with brokers, clients, and internal units to assess risk, negotiate coverage terms, and expand key relationships. The position blends underwriting, client interaction, and cross-functional collaboration, with opportunities to influence wording and coverage across markets. You will contribute to a culture of client focus, innovation, and inclusive teamwork within Munich Re.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite predominantly US industrial liability programs (general and product liability) for large multinational clients; potential scope beyond US
• Analyse, evaluate, and negotiate coverage, wording, and endorsements
• Monitor risk exposure and assist with claims handling when required
• Identify needs of existing and potential clients
• Attend client meetings and travel as needed
• Develop, maintain, and expand client and broker relationships aligned with strategy
• Collaborate in working groups and at events (training, lecturing)
• Utilise cross-selling opportunities within Facultative & Corporate (F&C)

Key requirements

• University degree (ideally business studies, engineering, or equivalent)
• Experience writing US industrial liability or heavy US exposure; construction and/or energy experience a plus
• Detailed understanding of policy wordings
• Analytical and strategic thinking
• Fluent in English (spoken and written)
• Intercultural and conflict-resolution skills
• Strong negotiating and sales skills
• Team player with knowledge-sharing mindset
