Overview

As a Principal Engineer at WSP, you will lead Building Services design projects within the MEP discipline, guiding both the technical delivery and project team. You will demonstrate a track record of winning or delivering commissions and work with minimal supervision on technical aspects. You will collaborate with clients and partners to meet project delivery needs and provide design leadership alongside BIM and sustainability specialists. This role offers exposure to large-scale projects at major airports and hospitals, within a culture that values innovation and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Building Services design projects for the discipline and project team
  • Demonstrate personal input that contributed to winning or delivering commissions
  • Work with initiative on technical aspects with minimal supervision
  • Provide design and technical advice in a project manager capacity within the MEP team
  • Supervise detailed designs and the work of others
  • Lead the feasibility study for projects within the discipline
  • Direct production of detailed and performance specifications under review
  • Brief project teams on design scope and requirements
  • Review design programmes and ensure adequate resources for delivery

Key requirements

  • Chartership progression via Engineering Council or related experience
  • Degree in Building Services Engineering or applicable discipline
  • Working towards IET Engineer or Chartered Building Services Engineer
  • Detailed understanding of discipline regulations and ability to demonstrate via calculations
  • Working knowledge of electrical design software and RevitMEP or similar 3D design tools
  • Strong communication skills for client and contractor discussions
  • Ability to obtain UK Security Check (SC)
  • Experience with electrical design topics: LV distribution, UPS, lighting, fire alarms, access control, data cabling, etc.
