Overview

In this role you will drive automation delivery for major capital projects, focusing on PLC, SCADA and instrumentation to meet scope, schedule and quality targets. You will coordinate system integrators and EPC contractors, guiding design, testing and handover across the full project lifecycle. The position sits at the heart of Tata Steel’s transformation, enabling safe, reliable automation within a complex industrial environment. You will collaborate across disciplines to deliver integrated solutions and help ensure industrial cybersecurity and functional safety standards are met. Responsibilities

  • Lead automation delivery for major projects, overseeing PLC, SCADA and instrumentation to hit targets
  • Manage system integrators and EPC contractors; review P&IDs, FDS, SDS, FAT/SAT, and as-built docs
  • Develop and execute project plans for engineering, construction and commissioning
  • Own lifecycle of automation projects from concept through to handover
  • Coordinate concept design, detailed engineering, FAT/SAT, installation and commissioning
  • Ensure compliance with IEC, BS EN, functional safety and cybersecurity standards
  • Prepare specifications and RFQs, evaluate bids and support vendor selection
  • Troubleshoot design, integration and commissioning challenges
  • Collaborate across electrical, mechanical and process teams for integrated solutions
  • Lead commissioning activities including loop checks and performance validation
  • Drive safety studies (HAZOP, LOPA, SIL) and manage Change through MoC processes

Key requirements

  • Strong background in industrial automation and control systems
  • Experience with PLC/SCADA design, configuration and commissioning
  • Knowledge of Siemens S7 (TIA Portal) and WinCC (highly desirable)
  • Understanding of industrial networks (PROFINET, Profibus, Modbus TCP/IP)
  • Familiarity with IEC, BS EN standards, functional safety and cybersecurity
  • Ability to manage complex projects and multiple stakeholders
  • Analytical and problem-solving
  • Effective communication and report writing
  • Strong planning and time management
  • PLC/SCADA design, configuration and commissioning
