Overview

As Design Engineer, you will drive telecoms and network design for London Underground projects, shaping safe, scalable rail solutions. You’ll collaborate with cross‑functional teams to translate requirements into buildable designs that meet standards and delivery schedules. You’ll manage design activities, risk assessment under CDM, and ensure on‑time, within‑budget outputs that reduce technical debt and performance bottlenecks. This role blends engineering rigor with innovative network design, offering impact across critical urban transit infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate project requirements into designs
  • Design solutions using industry best practices and tools
  • Produce buildable, maintainable designs meeting customer requirements and standards
  • Identify and address technical debt and performance bottlenecks
  • Work with other engineering disciplines to ensure successful delivery
  • Follow project delivery processes and use Hitachi Rail management tools and Engineering Management Plans
  • Escalate issues to the Senior Design Engineer when needed
  • Provide status reports to the Senior Design Engineer

Key requirements

  • Proven telecoms engineering experience in a related environment
  • Experience using design tools to produce complex designs
  • Understanding of project plans and ability to manage a design through a defined process
  • Ability to produce QA metrics and assurance documentation
  • Knowledge of CDM regulations and design risk management
  • Experience with configuration control and engineering delivery methodologies
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
