Senior Building Structures Engineer

Overview

In this role you lead a Building Structures team to deliver technically sound schemes within Amey’s Built Environment portfolio. You’ll oversee design production, ensure standards compliance, and support bids and client engagement across multiple sites. You will act as a technical and people leader, guiding junior staff and managing project quality, cost, and programme. This is a hands-on position with site exposure and a clear path to professional recognition. You’ll help shape high-value, resilient infrastructure for diverse clients.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team to deliver robust engineering solutions that meet standards and client requirements
• Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings, and documentation for scheme deliverables
• Supervise junior staff and take responsibility for their actions
• Manage project budgets and control costs related to deliverables
• Liaise with clients and suppliers, attend progress meetings, respond to queries
• Contribute to bid preparation and the work-winning function
• Work on-site as needed, including out-of-hours attendance
• Act as people manager when required by the business

Key requirements

• Demonstrable building structures experience
• Experience managing a small team of engineers and technicians
• Technical leadership ensuring design governance and standards compliance (Eurocodes and Building Regulations)
• Experience using 3D CAD software, Tekla Structural Designer and Tekla Tedds
• Experience managing quality and programme performance across multiple schemes
• Professional engagement with clients and stakeholders
• Incorporated or Chartered status or active progression towards it
