In this role you will lead building services design for a diverse public-sector estate, delivering sustainable, compliant solutions. You’ll shape mechanical engineering strategy across capital projects, refurbishments, and estate improvements, ensuring safe and efficient buildings. You’ll manage design teams, collaborate with multidisciplinaries, and support decarbonisation and energy‑efficient initiatives. Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design from concept to delivery for building services projects
- Produce HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, and domestic services designs
- Ensure compliance with legislation, CIBSE guidelines, and public-sector requirements
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical QA
- Collaborate with electrical engineers, architects, PMs, and contractors
- Conduct site surveys, feasibility studies, and condition assessments
- Prepare reports, specifications, schedules, and tender documentation
- Support sustainability and decarbonisation initiatives
- Engage with stakeholders and statutory bodies to ensure smooth delivery
- Contribute to long-term asset planning and engineering strategy for the estate
Key requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
- Chartered or working toward Chartered status (CEng) with CIBSE or IMechE
- Significant experience in mechanical building services design
- Strong understanding of UK building regulations and public-sector procurement
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and mechanical calculation tools
- Excellent communication and ability to present to non-technical stakeholders
