Overview

In this role you lead the Platforms Engineering work within Data and Technology Services at LSE, guiding compute, storage, virtualization, backup and cloud foundations to be reliable, secure and scalable. You will drive automation, IaC, observability and platform reliability while modernising how the platform estate is built and operated. You’ll promote reusable services, self-service capabilities and strong governance, setting high standards for the team. This is a hands-on leadership role in a global, mission-driven university.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership for the platform and infrastructure services
  • Oversee compute, storage, virtualization, backup and cloud foundations to ensure reliability and security
  • Drive modernization of platform estate and adoption of automation, IaC and observability
  • Promote reusable platform services and self-service capabilities
  • Maintain governance, security and operational controls across platforms
  • Mentor and lead the Platform Engineering team to deliver complex initiatives
  • Foster high service, interaction and delivery standards across DTS and business teams

Key requirements

  • 5+ years in platform engineering, infrastructure operations or cloud services with responsibility for business-critical platforms
  • Demonstrated technical leadership across platform domains (compute, virtualization, storage, backup, identity services, cloud, automation)
  • Experience implementing automation and IaC to enable scalable service delivery
  • Ability to set technical direction and support development of others
