Overview
In this role you lead a team within the Private Housing Service to accelerate remediation of high and mid-rise privately owned residential buildings in Bristol, collaborating with fire and regional authorities. You will oversee enforcement actions, data reporting, and partnerships to improve housing conditions and fire safety. The position combines strategic leadership with hands-on regulatory work in a high-demand environment, offering meaningful impact across the city and region.

Responsibilities
- Oversee identification and assessment of high and mid-rise buildings needing remediation
- Prioritise cases using inspection and risk assessment methods
- Take informal and formal enforcement actions using legal powers (including Tribunal/Court proceedings)
- Liaise with Avon Fire & Rescue Service Fire Safety Officers
- Manage, maintain and report on relevant data
- Recruit, develop and lead the team
Key requirements
- Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience
- Extensive knowledge of private housing, construction and fire safety
- Strong understanding of legislation relating to assessment and improvement of residential properties
- Significant enforcement experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to lead a team and build effective partnerships
- Strong organisational skills with ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines
