Overview

In this Town Planner role, you join a growing Bristol planning team to work on a varied portfolio across residential, retail, healthcare and more. You will support applications, appeals and pre-application advice while developing client-facing expertise and technical knowledge. You’ll research policy, prepare planning documents, and liaise with authorities to progress projects. The position offers strong development within a multidisciplinary consultancy and scope for broader project exposure.

Responsibilities

  • Support and manage preparation and submission of planning applications, appeals, and pre-application enquiries
  • Undertake planning appraisals and provide planning advice to clients
  • Research and interpret planning policy, legislation, and local planning matters
  • Prepare planning reports, statements, and supporting documentation
  • Liaise with Local Planning Authorities and other stakeholders
  • Attend site visits, client meetings, and planning committees as required
  • Support negotiations and progress applications through planning process
  • Provide clear, commercially focused planning advice
  • Manage own workload and meet deadlines
  • Maintain high QA standards and support client relationship management and business development

Key requirements

  • 2+ years’ town planning experience
  • Previous consultancy or relevant planning experience
  • A degree in Town Planning or related subject
  • Experience with planning applications, appeals and/or pre-application advice
  • Strong understanding of UK planning system and policy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Proactive and commercially aware approach
  • MRTPI status or clear ambition to pursue chartership
