Overview
In this role you will manage a varied caseload covering countryside, public rights of way, access land, highways, commons and village greens. You will support senior colleagues on complex matters and provide general legal advice, contributing to a high‑performing in-house team. The position combines independent work with teamwork to deliver quality legal services for the Council and external clients. A fixed-term contract offers a chance to impact public law matters while benefiting from flexible and remote‑working options.

Responsibilities
- Handle routine to moderately complex countryside, public rights of way, access land, highways, commons and village greens matters, including enforcement, hearings and inquiries.
- Support senior team members on large or complex matters.
- Provide general legal advice on related matters and conduct legal research.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to junior team members.
- Adhere to LEXCEL quality standards.
- Assist with drafting Committee reports and other reasonable duties.
Key requirements
- Qualified Chartered Legal Executive, Solicitor or Barrister with strong knowledge in countryside, public rights of way, access land, highways, commons and village greens law.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a varied workload.
- Local authority knowledge preferred but not essential.
