Overview

In this role you will deliver a high-quality Clinical Pathology diagnostic service while teaching undergraduates and postgraduates. You will pursue clinical research to strengthen the service’s profile and contribute to the School’s national and international excellence in clinical care, teaching, and research. You will support residents, supervise staff, and help develop innovative diagnostic approaches that enhance patient care and income opportunities. You’ll work within a collaborative, internationally oriented division with opportunities for career development.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a high-quality diagnostic Clinical Pathology service to clinical teams, referring practices, and research clients
  • Support coverage and continuity of advisory services from the Clinical Pathology team
  • Develop and maintain Laboratory Quality Management within the service
  • Develop novel diagnostic approaches to aid diagnosis and treatment and support income generation
  • Assist in planning, organizing and delivering training for residents toward examinations
  • Develop and sustain an international reputation in clinical pathology and enhance research profile
  • Maximise personal development and CPD compliance with RCVS requirements
  • Organise and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activities as directed
  • Lead and participate in assessment activities and examinations with constructive feedback
  • Provide/module leadership and contribute to curriculum development for a research-led learning approach
  • Supervise postgraduate residents and research students as appropriate
  • Initiate or collaborate on clinical/diagnostic investigations and evidence-based medicine with publication output
  • Attend national/international events and research seminars
  • Contribute to external funding applications to underpin growth of the diagnostic pathology field
  • Devise and supervise UG/PG projects; mentor students/residents in research projects
  • Engage in promotional activities for Veterinary Diagnostic Services and CPD
  • Develop CPD opportunities for practitioners in the UK and overseas
  • Contribute to the university’s international profile through teaching, research and services

Key requirements

  • Veterinary degree registerable with RCVS
  • FRCPath (Veterinary Clinical Pathology) or Diploma of ECVCPath/AVCP or equivalent
  • For Grade 9: specialist post graduate qualification in veterinary clinical pathology and at least two years post-boards experience
  • Postgraduate teaching qualification (e.g. FHEA)
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Broad expertise to advise internal and external clinicians and researchers
  • Clinical pathology diagnostic service provision
  • Laboratory Quality Management
  • Research and scholarship in veterinary pathology
