Overview

In this role you will ensure safety, compliance and certification of Thales’ Integrated Airspace Protection Systems (IAS) products. You will lead hazard analysis, drive risk reduction, define safety requirements and develop robust safety cases across the full lifecycle. You’ll influence engineering decisions through multidisciplinary collaboration and support certification and customer assurance. The position is Belfast-based with an on-site requirement and security clearance expectations, offering growth in a fast-moving defence technology environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Safety & Environmental Management activities across project teams per IAS Safety Management System
  • Drive hazard analysis, risk assessment and mitigation throughout design, integration, verification and testing
  • Provide expert leadership to multidisciplinary teams and embed safety into engineering decisions
  • Champion compliance with safety/environmental legislation, standards and governance across IAS programmes
  • Plan and manage S&EM work packages, estimate effort, and produce safety assessments and safety cases
  • Support certification and customer assurance activities
  • Influence engineering decisions to ensure products are safe, certifiable and fit for deployment

Key requirements

  • Academic and professional credentials in Engineering or Science
  • Chartered status and postgraduate qualifications in Safety or Environmental Engineering (ideal)
  • Experience leading safety engineering activities within complex programmes
  • Proven ability in hazard analysis, risk assessments and safety case development
  • Knowledge of product safety standards, legislation and environmental management principles
  • Capability to apply whole-life systems engineering across complex technical challenges
  • Desirable: experience in airworthiness or highly regulated environments with certification/assurance understanding
