Overview
In this role you will help establish, run and maintain experimental fibre manufacturing capabilities for the HOLLOW SILK project, a cross-institution initiative funded by ARIA. You will work within the Centre for Photonics at the University of Bath, collaborating with international partners to build and operate bespoke research equipment and processes. You will support materials processing, data collection and system optimization to translate cutting-edge research into scalable manufacturing. This is a hands-on, interdisciplinary role with significant opportunities for collaboration and impact.

Responsibilities
- Support development, assembly and operation of experimental manufacturing systems and lab facilities
- Design, build and modify bespoke research equipment and prototype manufacturing platforms
- Assist with experimental research activities including materials preparation, equipment operation, data collection and analysis
- Maintain laboratory equipment, inventories, technical documentation and safe working practices
- Provide technical support and training to researchers and students
- Collaborate with project partners to deliver research objectives and milestones
- Contribute to process development, technology scale-up and automation initiatives where appropriate
Key requirements
- Experience in laboratory, manufacturing, engineering or technical development environments
- Knowledge of materials processing, instrumentation, automation, prototyping or process development
- Familiarity with programming or scripting for automation or data acquisition (advantageous)
- Strong hands-on problem-solving skills and practical mindset
