Senior PHP Developer – City London

Overview

In this role you shape the development of a high-end, scalable e-commerce platform in a hands-on yet leadership-capable capacity. You work closely with an in-house team and report to the Tech Director, helping to resolve bottlenecks and drive architectural decisions. You’ll contribute to spec writing, project planning, code reviews, and road-mapping, while guiding a development team toward timely delivery. This is a growth-focused position in a collaborative, fast-paced tech environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize PHP/MySQL on Linux servers
• Assist with spec writing and project planning
• Conduct code reviews and provide architectural guidance
• Help manage road map and strategic technical direction
• Lead development efforts and mentor the team
• Collaborate to identify and resolve bottlenecks and performance issues

Key requirements

• 8+ years of commercial PHP/MySQL experience
• Experience with LAMP stack and Linux
• MVC, ORM experience
• Unit testing
• HTML/CSS/XHTML, jQuery
• Caching technologies (MemCached, Redis, Varnish)
• Strong communication in English, both written and verbal
• Proven ability to proactively lead development teams and meet deadlines
• Ability to work independently or in a team and handle tight timelines
