Technical Author – MOD Projects

Excellent opportunity for someone with (ILS), technical training, or military publications experience-to step into a professional Technical Author role supporting MOD equipment and programmes.

This growing organisation produces high‑quality technical documentation used across the maintenance, operation and support of defence assets. If you’ve worked with AESPs, BRs, APs, or in a technical library, training cell, or engineering support environment, this role may be suitable for you.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Visit military and defence customer sites to gather, interpret and collate technical data for a wide range of MOD documentation.
  • Work directly with OEMs and engineering teams to produce and update operation manuals, maintenance documentation, Illustrated Parts Catalogues, ILS elements, safety information and training media.
  • Translate complex engineering information into clear, accurate and user‑friendly documentation for end‑users and maintainers.
  • Ensure all publications meet MOD and company standards, delivering high‑quality outputs within agreed timelines.
  • A full security clearance will be required.

What You’ll Bring

  • Engineering background in Mechanical, Electrical or Electronic disciplines.
  • Experience with technical publications, ideally military formats such as AESPs, BRs, APs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyse, evaluate and simplify complex technical information.
  • Confident engaging with customers and stakeholders to gather accurate source data.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Ideal backgrounds include MOD, REME, Royal Navy, RAF, Army, defence contractors or roles involving ILS, training development, equipment support or technical library work.
