A supportive Primary School in Cheltenham is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Early Years Practitioner to join their Pre-school team on a long-term basis.
This full-time position will begin as soon as possible and will continue on a long-term basis, offering an excellent opportunity to become a valued member of the school team and make a positive impact on young children’s learning, development, and wellbeing.

The successful Early Years Practitioner will work closely with the Pre-school team to support children throughout the school day, helping them to develop their confidence, independence, communication, and social skills.
The role will involve supporting children with their learning and development through a range of engaging, age-appropriate activities. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced staff to create a positive and stimulating environment where children feel safe, valued, and encouraged to explore and learn. Previous experience working within an Early Years or Pre-school setting is highly desirable.
As an Early Years Practitioner, your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting children within the Pre-school setting throughout the school day
- Working closely with the Pre-school team to support the delivery of engaging and age-appropriate learning activities
- Supporting children’s learning and development in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
- Helping children to develop their communication, language, physical, social, and emotional skills
- Supporting children through play-based learning and encouraging them to explore their environment
- Working with individual children and small groups to support their learning and development
- Building positive, trusting, and nurturing relationships with children
- Encouraging children’s confidence, independence, and curiosity
- Supporting children’s early literacy and numeracy development
- Encouraging positive behaviour and helping children to develop their social skills
- Providing reassurance, encouragement, and emotional support where required
- Supporting children during transitions, snack times, outdoor learning, and other aspects of the school day
- Creating and maintaining a safe, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment
- Observing children’s development and contributing to records and assessments where required
- Working collaboratively with the Pre-school team, class teachers, and wider school staff
- Following school policies, safeguarding procedures, and EYFS guidance at all times
To be successful in this Early Years Practitioner role, you will need:
- Previous experience working with children within an Early Years, Nursery, or Pre-school setting is highly desirable
- A relevant Early Years, Childcare, or Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable
- A good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
- A calm, patient, and nurturing approach
- The ability to build positive relationships with young children and understand their individual needs
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
- The ability to support children’s learning and development through play and engaging activities
- A proactive, adaptable, and child-centred approach
- A genuine passion for working with young children and supporting them to achieve their full potential
- A reliable, professional, and compassionate attitude
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
