SEND Teaching Assistant – Care Background Location: St Helens Start Date: Immediate or October 2026 Contract: Full-Time or Part-Time | Long-Term | Term Time Only

Do you have experience working in care, support work, healthcare or with vulnerable individuals and want to move into education? A specialist SEND school in St Helens is looking for caring and reliable Teaching Assistants to join their team on a long-term basis. Previous school experience is not essential if you have strong transferable skills from a care or support background. The school supports pupils aged 4–14 with a range of needs including Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, Cerebral Palsy, Down syndrome and complex learning and medical needs.

The Role

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils
  • Support pupils with their learning, communication and development
  • Help with emotional regulation and positive behaviour
  • Encourage confidence, independence and social skills
  • Support pupils with sensory, physical and medical needs
  • Provide personal care where required
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Follow individual support and care plans
  • Work alongside teachers, therapists and other professionals
  • Help maintain a safe, calm and structured environment
