The Opportunity

You’ll join our Water team and be part of a UK-wide discipline of around 335 civil and structural engineers. You’ll learn from experienced colleagues while developing the skills and confidence to build your career in civil engineering.

Locally, you’ll be part of a team of around 31 colleagues. The Leeds team primarily supports Yorkshire Water, one of our largest UK clients, across a range of frameworks and contracts including the Strategic Planning Partnership and the Yorkshire Stormwater Alliance. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn from colleagues working on dams and reservoirs projects, as well as teams supporting the Northumbrian Water framework.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting engineering activities from feasibility through to construction, including the production of detailed calculations, analysis and drawings.
  • Using AutoCAD, Civil 3D and other industry software to present design solutions for clients.
  • Assisting in the preparation of reports, presentations, bids and proposals.
  • Providing technical input on civil engineering matters to support the wider project team.
  • Attending meetings and workshops with clients and colleagues from other disciplines.

Earn while you learn. Whichever apprenticeship route you take, your tuition and qualification fees are on us. You will gain aLevel 6BEng Civil Engineering degree in conjunction with our Training Provider(s). This will be discussed further during the recruitment process. For this role, training providers could include;

  • Coventry University (block release)
  • Leeds Beckett University (day release)

About you:

You’re adaptable, resilient, collaborative and curious — you stay calm when things change, keep going when challenges come up, enjoy working with others, value different perspectives and like sharing ideas, asking questions and finding better ways to solve problems.

Qualifications:

  • A level: BBC (excluding General Studies). You must have Mathematics at grade B or above and one other analytical science subject at grade B or above. Analytical science subjects can include Physics, Biology/Human Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Further Mathematics and Design and Technology.
  • BTEC (Level 3) Extended Diploma : DMM – this must include a Merit or above in Mathematics and Further Mathematics in Construction Units. Accepted courses: Civil Engineering, Aerospace, Construction and the Built Environment and Mechanical Engineering.
  • For Coventry you must have: DDM
  • Scottish Highers: 4 SQA Higher – A, B, B, B (to include Mathematics, Higher Applications of Mathematics not accepted).
  • Irish Highers: H3, H3, H3, H3, H3, H4 (at least H3 for Mathematics and one other Analytical Science).
  • International Baccalaureate: 32/655. HL5 in Mathematics (Analysis and Approaches) and HL5 in another Science subject, including Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Design Technology, Physics, Environmental Systems and Societies.
  • Other equivalent qualifications may be considered.

You must also have:

  • GCSEs: 5 GCSE’s (or recognised equivalent) with a grade 5-6 (B) or above in Mathematics and English Language. Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Mathematics are also accepted.
