No insurance experience? No problem.

Are you organised, confident on the phone and looking for a genuine route into a professional career? This is a great entry point into specialist commercial insurance with a leading global insurer, where you’ll gain hands-on underwriting exposure and fully funded professional qualifications.

The Opportunity

My client is a well-established international specialist insurer with a modern office in Leeds city centre, close to the train station. They’re looking for an Underwriting Support Assistant to join their Professional & Management Risks (PMR) Renewals team on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

You’ll join a friendly, collaborative team of 10, including Senior Underwriters, Underwriters and Assistant Underwriters. Together they manage a substantial multi-million-pound renewal portfolio covering Professional Indemnity, Directors & Officers (D&O) and Cyber insurance.

You’ll be the front-line support for the underwriting team. You’ll keep in regular contact with brokers, chase renewals, manage workflows and help the team deliver outstanding service in a fast-paced environment.

While the role is fixed-term, there is a genuine possibility of longer-term opportunities. The business has planned growth and a strong track record of moving high-performing contract staff into permanent roles.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Handling inbound broker calls and making proactive outbound calls
  • Following up issued quotes and terms, and chasing outstanding renewal information by phone and email
  • Progressing renewals, mid-term adjustments, referrals and enquiries within agreed service standards
  • Setting up and maintaining files, preparing documentation and assisting with policy processing
  • Managing renewal pipelines, updating statuses and keeping on top of diary items and deadlines
  • Accurately entering data across underwriting systems
  • Reviewing incoming work and directing cases to the right underwriter when their input or authority is needed
  • Building strong relationships with brokers, underwriters and colleagues across the wider business
  • Contributing to team projects, testing and process improvements

What You’ll Bring

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and confidence on the telephone
  • A customer-focused mindset
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to juggle competing priorities
  • Great attention to detail and accuracy
  • A proactive approach: you follow things up without being prompted and take ownership of your work
  • The ability to learn quickly and adapt to new systems
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft 365
  • Ambition and a genuine interest in building a long-term career in insurance

Backgrounds That Work Well

  • Contact centres or customer service
  • Sales support or administration
  • Estate agency or property services
  • Banking operations or financial services administration
  • Retail or hospitality management
  • Insurance administration or broker support

What’s On Offer

  • Hybrid working: 3 days in the office, 2 from home
  • Exposure to the full renewal lifecycle across PI, D&O and Cyber
