SEN Specialist Support Assistant

A specialist SEN school in Rochdale is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Specialist Support Assistant to join their team on a long-term basis. The school provides a supportive and nurturing environment for pupils with a range of additional needs, ensuring every pupil receives the personalised support they need to thrive. The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting pupils throughout the school day, working closely with teachers and the wider support team to provide high-quality academic, social and emotional support.

Key responsibilities:

• Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with additional needs
• Supporting pupils with a range of SEN needs within a specialist setting
• Assisting with learning, communication, social development and emotional regulation
• Supporting positive behaviour and helping pupils develop independence
• Following individual support plans and contributing to pupils’ development
• Working closely with teachers and other support staff to ensure pupils receive consistent support
• Creating a calm, safe and nurturing environment for pupils
• A specialist SEN setting with a strong support network
• A welcoming and experienced staff team

This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about supporting children with additional needs and looking to develop their experience within a specialist SEN setting.

The successful applicant will:

• Have experience working with children or young people, ideally within an SEN setting
• Be patient, calm and nurturing in their approach
• Be confident supporting pupils with additional needs and/or challenging behaviour
• Be proactive and able to work effectively as part of a team
• Have strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Have full-time availability for the duration of the role
• Hold a valid child and adult workforce DBS
