We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join an established engineering team developing embedded software for critical infrastructure products used within the energy and power sector.
This is a hands-on embedded software role, suited to an engineer with strong C/C++ development experience and a solid understanding of embedded systems and product development.
You will join a multidisciplinary engineering environment working across an established product platform, delivering new functionality, product enhancements and increasingly sophisticated communications and security capabilities. The team is also developing its embedded Linux capability, making this particularly interesting for an engineer with experience across traditional embedded systems and Linux environments.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop and maintain embedded software using C/C++
Deliver new functionality and enhancements across an established embedded product platform
Investigate software defects and undertake unit, integration and system-level testing
Collaborate with hardware, systems and test engineers throughout the product development lifecycle
Provide technical guidance and coaching to junior engineers while contributing to code reviews and software quality improvements
Experience Required
Approximately 5+ years’ commercial embedded software development experience
Strong hands-on programming experience using C and/or C++
Practical experience developing software for embedded systems, including microcontrollers and low-level architectures
Experience working through the lifecycle of an embedded product, from development and testing through to release and ongoing enhancement
Strong debugging and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team
Particularly Relevant Experience
Embedded Linux development, including exposure to kernels, bootloaders or low-level Linux environments
Bare-metal development and/or RTOS environments such as FreeRTOS
ARM-based processors and embedded communication protocols including SPI, I2C and UART
Ethernet, TCP/IP or other industrial communication technologies
Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), power systems, energy, industrial automation or control systems
You do not need experience across every technology listed. Strong practical embedded software engineering experience is the key requirement, with embedded Linux experience particularly valuable as the product architecture continues to evolve.
Benefits
26 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, with the option to purchase an additional 5 days
Employer pension contribution of up to 10%
Annual company performance-related bonus of approximately 5%
Subsidised healthcare
Salary sacrifice benefits and flexible working hours
