You will be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following locations – Contin, Inverness, Foyers or Fort William.

Salary

SS10 £71,869 – £85,880 depending on skills and experience + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

As a Lead Engineer within SSE Renewables Hydro Asset Management, you’ll be responsible for leading the development and delivery of civil engineering capital maintenance activities across a portfolio of hydro generation assets. You will provide technical leadership to a team of engineers and work closely with operations, maintenance and planning teams to ensure the safe, efficient and sustainable management of our assets.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in maintaining and enhancing critical renewable energy infrastructure while helping to deliver SSE’s ambitions for a net-zero future.

This role would suit someone from a civil or mechanical engineering background.

Some of your other main accountabilities will include;

  • Shape annual work programmes, budgets and resource plans, ensuring priorities support our business objectives.
  • Take ownership of project and programme finances, maintaining tight cost control and accurate forecasts.
  • Support outage planning and coordinate engineering input to maximise asset availability and performance.
  • Build trusted relationships with operational teams, contractors and external stakeholders to drive successful delivery.
  • Coach and mentor engineers, building team capability and supporting future succession.

To be successful in this role, we would love you to have;

  • Chartered Engineer status or demonstrable progress towards professional registration.
  • Experience delivering engineering projects in an operational environment.
  • Knowledge of hydro generation assets, dams, waterways, flood gates, valves or similar infrastructure would be highly advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all organisational levels.
  • Demonstrable experience leading and developing engineering teams.
