Wellbeing Mentor – Therapeutic SEMH School

Do you have a natural ability to build trust with young people who may struggle with anxiety, emotional regulation, confidence and engagement?

SEND Inclusion Support is working with a fantastic therapeutic school in Oakham to recruit a Wellbeing Mentor for a fixed-term maternity cover.

This is a relationship-led role supporting young people with SEMH needs within a specialist environment.

The role

You’ll work closely with pupils to support their emotional wellbeing, confidence and ability to engage with education.

This could include:

  • Building trusting relationships with pupils

  • Providing mentoring and pastoral support

  • Supporting emotional regulation

  • Helping pupils develop confidence and resilience

  • Supporting pupils through periods of anxiety or dysregulation

  • Encouraging positive engagement with education

  • Supporting social and emotional development

  • Helping pupils develop strategies for managing difficult situations

  • Working alongside teachers and the wider therapeutic team

  • Providing a calm, consistent and positive presence

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with young people with SEMH needs

  • Is calm, patient and emotionally intelligent

  • Has excellent relationship-building skills

  • Can maintain clear boundaries while remaining warm and approachable

  • Understands trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches

  • Is confident supporting young people who may display challenging behaviour

  • Can remain consistent and professional during difficult situations

Experience in a school, SEMH, AP, residential, youth work, mentoring or therapeutic environment would be highly desirable.

This role would suit someone who genuinely enjoys helping young people understand themselves, build confidence and make positive progress.

Start ideally mid/late February – fixed-term maternity cover.
