Overview

In this role you will help build and lead the in-house legal function for a high-growth private credit fund. You will partner with senior stakeholders to manage legal and regulatory risk across lending transactions and compliance. You will own drafting, reviewing and negotiating loan and facility documentation, and oversee AML/KYC and FCA regulatory obligations. This is a hands-on, autonomous position with a strong focus on shaping governance and the legal framework as the firm expands. You will contribute to scalable processes, ensuring robust compliance while supporting strategic growth.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and formalize the in-house legal function, processes and governance
  • Lead legal aspects of lending and investment transactions from inception to completion with internal stakeholders and external counsel
  • Draft, review and negotiate loan agreements, facility agreements, NDAs and commercial contracts
  • Provide pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice on risks to senior stakeholders
  • Lead the firm’s compliance function and ensure FCA regulatory adherence
  • Oversee MLRO responsibilities including AML, KYC and sanctions framework

Key requirements

  • England and Wales Qualified Lawyer with 5+ years PQE
  • Strong generalist legal background with excellent drafting and negotiating skills on loan documentation
  • Strong transactional experience with ability to lead documentation and manage transactions end-to-end
  • Pragmatic, commercial minded with ability to advise senior stakeholders
  • Knowledge of FCA regulations, AML and KYC advantageous
  • Exposure to FCA Regulated environments in banking/private credit/lending desirable
  • Proactive and entrepreneurial with ambition to build and develop a legal function
  • Full-time or 4 days, remote possible from outside London
