Lead Data Scientist – KYC/Onboarding

Overview

As Technical Lead Data Scientist, you’ll own the ML lifecycle for KYC onboarding, shaping data-driven risk checks and document verification. You join Wise’s KYC and Onboarding team to translate complex data into scalable models that improve speed and security for customers worldwide. You’ll mentor teammates, collaborate with cross-functional partners, and push innovations in deep learning and production-ready data science. This role offers impact at scale, contributing to Wise’s mission of making money movement easier and cheaper.

Responsibilities

• Plan and ideate data science projects with cross-functional teams
• Develop and refine ML models for KYC/document verification
• Manage data pipelines and large image/tabular datasets
• Measure, optimize, and monitor model performance in production
• Maintain a large Python codebase following best practices
• Stay updated on ML research and apply relevant ideas to production
• Mentor junior data scientists and promote skills development
• Communicate value, limitations, and impact of DS initiatives to stakeholders
• Support training, testing, and iteration of models throughout their lifecycle

Key requirements

• Experience owning ML model lifecycle (training, testing, deployment, monitoring)
• Strong Python, with focus on production-grade code
• Experience with deep learning for image data and tabular data handling
• Ability to work with large datasets and KYC/document verification domain
• Ability to communicate complex DS concepts to diverse stakeholders
• Mentorship or leadership experience within a DS team
