Hays Education are delighted to be working in partnership with a welcoming and well-regarded primary school in Ormskirk to recruit an experienced School Business Manager for a maternity cover position commencing in January 2027. They will be considering both part-time and full-time options for this position with up to £25 per hour depending on experience.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a dedicated leadership team and play a key role in the strategic and operational management of the school.
The position is expected to run for a minimum of two terms through to Summer 2027, with the potential for extension depending on the needs of the school.
Your new role As School Business Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the school’s financial, administrative, HR and operational functions, ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the school while supporting long-term strategic objectives.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing the school’s budget, financial planning and reporting
- Providing strategic financial advice to the Headteacher and Governors
- Overseeing HR administration, recruitment and personnel processes
- Managing contracts, procurement and supplier relationships
- Monitoring compliance with statutory and school policies
- Supporting health and safety, premises management and risk assessments
- Leading and developing administrative support staff
- Ensuring effective management of school systems and operational procedures
What you’ll need to succeed:
- Have previous experience working as a School Business Manager or within a senior school business support role
- Possess strong financial management and budgetary experience
- Have excellent organisational and leadership skills
- Be confident working collaboratively with senior leaders, governors and external stakeholders
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of school compliance, HR and operational procedures
- Ideally have experience working within a primary school setting
- Have knowledge of school management systems and education funding processes
