Mechanical Assembler / Assembly Operative

  • Contract: Temporary to permanent
  • Probationary period: 3 months – initial 12-week temp acting as probation for perm role.

NW Recruitment Services Ltd are recruiting on behalf of an established engineering and manufacturing business in Burnley for a Mechanical Assembler / Assembly Operative to join their existing workshop team.

This is a hands-on, operative-level role involving the assembly and fitting of mechanical components, panels and working alongside engineers to support from component assembly to finished product.

You will work as part of a team of five, alongside four other members of the team. The role involves using a range of hand tools, following CAD and engineering drawings, working to specified measurements and tolerances, and ensuring completed work meets the required specification.

This is not an engineer-level position, and a time-served apprenticeship or formal engineering qualification is not required. Practical ability, attention to detail, reliability and a willingness to learn are more important.

Key responsibilities:

  • Carrying out hands-on mechanical assembly work using a variety of hand tools.
  • Screwing, fitting and securing panels, components and associated fittings.
  • Following CAD and engineering drawings to assemble components correctly.
  • Working accurately to specified measurements and tolerances.
  • Carrying out mechanical fitting, including assisting with pipework fitting.
  • Checking completed assemblies to ensure work meets the required specification.
  • Using hand tools safely and correctly.
  • Supporting other members of the wider team with general workshop duties.
  • Assisting with occasional warehouse and additional ad-hoc duties as required.
  • Keeping work areas clean, tidy, free of hazards and organised.
  • Working flexibly as part of a small team, with everyone expected to assist where needed to keep work progressing.

Working hours:

  • Monday to Friday, generally working 8:00am until 4:300pm / 5:00pm.
  • Allocated AM and PM break (paid), 30 minutes (unpaid lunch.
  • There may be occasions where working beyond 5:00pm is required depending on workload and business requirements.

Contract & progression:

The position will initially be offered on a 3-month temporary probationary basis through NW Recruitment Services Ltd, with the intention of moving to a permanent position for the right candidate.

On successful completion of the probationary period (12 weeks), the permanent salary will be and equivalent of £28,500 per annum.
